The DUKC® can calculate UKC for any movement, up to 48 hours before transit commencement. UKC factors are predicted by taking into account:
- vessel and load state characteristics;
- prevailing and predicted environmental conditions; and
- waterway configuration, including detailed bathymetry.
These factors are used to determine the minimum clearance between the seabed and the hull as well as the vessel’s manoeuvrability. Safety margins for both these quantities are applied at all times.
