DUKC® Portable Pilot Unit (PPU)

OMC International’s (OMC’s) DUKC® Portable Pilot Unit (DUKC® PPU) is the only tool in the world providing marine pilots with real-time UKC management advice through vessel speed optimisation. Based on OMC’s award winning Dynamic Under Keel Clearance (DUKC®) technology, the DUKC® PPU determines the optimum sailing speed prior to, and during a transit, ensuring pilots have up to the minute under keel clearance advice and a means of ensuring navigational safety. The DUKC® PPU provides pilots with the information required to allow them to cope with variations in vessel capabilities, met-ocean conditions and vessel traffic congestion. This flexibility is becoming increasingly important as pressure on shippers to maintain tight schedules increases.

The DUKC® PPU provides a seamless transition from the shore based DUKC® system, which operates from 36 hours up until a transit, to a system operated onboard during transit through port approach channels and shallow waterways. The DUKC® PPU optimises a vessel’s speed during transit to ensure adequate UKC will be maintained based upon the prevailing environmental conditions on the day.

The DUKC® PPU enables pilots to shorten transit times through port channels to the minimum possible without jeopardising navigational safety.

The DUKC® PPU can be provided as a ruggedised hardware bundle for operation in the harsh marine environment. Lightweight, and extremely tough, the bundle includes a ruggedised laptop with ECDIS grade operating system, components and screen, and internal or external 3g hardware for connections.
